of the Ban des Vendanges

Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August 2023

Proclamation of the 25th Ban des Vendanges, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August 2023 in Avignon at the Rocher des Doms.

#1 The event

The Ban des Vendanges des Côtes du Rhône is the festivity that kicks off the grape harvest in the entire Rhône Valley. A major Bacchic celebration, a cultural and festive event that is held during the last weekend in August, the Ban des Vendanges is a fun and friendly event par excellence. On the programme: the Harvest Proclamation, the gourmet food market, the Grand Harvest Dance. During the afternoon – animation, colourful procession of the wine brotherhoods, winegrowers’ Mass in the Provençal language at the Notre Dame des Doms basilica.

#2 The tradition

The Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône, surrounded by the Bacchic brotherhoods, political leaders and Côtes du Rhône wine industry leaders, all await the Harvest Proclamation, made by the Grand Master of the Commanderie des Costes du Rhône. Once the proclamation is made, the Compagnons share a text written in Provençal 26 years ago by their founding members, then read it in several different languages.

#3 Fun & Friendly

On Saturday 28 August 2021, good fun and conviviality are the order of the day for this 25th Ban des Vendanges in Avignon. For many years now, these two values of human interaction and conviviality mark the entire day of the Ban des Vendanges organized and driven by the Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône backed by their partners. Enjoyment and friendly encounters for a great crowd which gathers to delight in a magical moment in the magnificent gardens at the Rocher des Doms.
