Early 1990’s… young winemakers from the villages of Cairanne, Lagarde-Paréol and Sainte Cécile les Vignes come together. They revive and rejuvenate the local festivities surrounding the Ban des Vendanges. The overwhelming success of their events leads them to create the association ‘Les Compagnons du Ban des Vendanges’.

A few years later they rename the association ‘Les Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône’, to express their drive to promote all of the wines from the Côtes du Rhône and also the region, the terroir, the historical and environmental heritage.

Today, the association ‘Les Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône’ brings together some fifty volunteer wine aficionados who commit to upholding the promotion of Côtes du Rhône wines and Avignon capital of the Côtes du Rhône, through culture and environmental and historical heritage.

To reach their objective, the Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône create popular, festive and media events driven by the values of sharing, friendliness and human interaction.

Committed to energizing the image of this historical heart of the Côtes du Rhône, to boosting its heritage and culture, the Compagnons have chosen to anchor the existing events, the Ban des Vendanges and the Estivales du Rhône, in the city, and to expand them there. They have also decided to create new, friendly events that bring together all the key players in the areas covered by the appellation, and to make Avignon a wine-tourism destination all year long.
